Computer Forensics can be described as the systematic inspection of the computer systems, hard disks or other digital storage media, to identify information which has some evidential value, either support or disprove a case under the examination of a Civil or Criminal court. This requires specialised tools that are able to preserve the intergrirty of any evidence found and must be collected in a manner that meets the the satifaction of the courts.
The field of Computer Forensics is an indepth area, requiring both technical understanding of the computer systems and file structures under examination and a good understanding of the rules of evidence, which relate to UK law. The UKForensic wiki was started with two fundemental aims, firstly to increase collaboration amongst UK computer forensic experts and secondly as a portal by which the knowledge held by these experts can be passed to individuals who want to understand the process and tools used during the course of a computer gorensic Investigation.
The information found on this site is contributed by individuals from the UK computer forensic community and will contain information which is specific to the UK computer forensic community
The Open Computer Forensic Investigation Process (OCFIP) is an industry initiative to produce and publish and formal industry recognised approach for conducting Computer Forensic Investigations in the United Kingdoom. This project is open to everyone to participate and all materials will be available under an open source license. In order for this project to sucessed it is imperative that we recieve contributions from memebers of the UK computer forensic community. If you feel you have any thing to contribute please sign up and volunteer.
